Assignment Title: Cross Cultural Competency
What I learned: In this assignment I learned the importance of being a culturally competent health care professional. I learned that there is a growing number of minorities soon to be the majority and that our healthcare needs to adjust to the needs of different cultural groups. I also learned how to convey an idea to large group in simplistic terms.
Reflection to assignment: This assignment made me realize that there are so many different cultural groups that look at healthcare in different ways. My experience of our healthcare system is very straightforward and there is not much room for different ideas. Everything in our healthcare system is evidence based compared with so many other healthcare beliefs that include involving the health of the mind.
Relevance to the profession: Cultural competency is a very important topic in our country in every aspect of life. In healthcare people are at their most vulnerable state so it is important they are treated with the upmost respect. Doing in services like the one that I conducted should be a part of every hospital and healthcare professionals education.
